History of the Coleoptera Collection

From 1870 on Gustav Kraatz (1831-1909) promoted the installation of a National Museum for Entomology (Entomologischen National-Museums (ENM)). Apart from Kraatz the following Entomologists also bequeathed their collections to Entomologisches National-Museum, which later on became the Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut:

  • Lucas von Heyden, Frankfurt am Main – collection of palearctic Coleoptera,
  • Karl Wilhelm Letzner, Breslau – collection of  european Coleoptera,
  • Georg Metzler, Frankfurt am Main – collection of  Coleoptera: Melolonthinae,
  • William Henry Rolph, Berlin – collection of  moroccan Coleoptera,
  • August John Stern, Frankfurt am Main – collection of  Coleoptera,
  • Johann Carl Stern, Frankfurt am Main – collection of  Coleoptera (mainly Germany),
  • Lothar Dieckmann, Eberswalde - collection of european Coleoptera: Curculionoidea,
  • Karl-Heinz Mohr, Halle (Saale) - collection of Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae.
