RESEARCH FOR THE FUTURE
In this brochure we would like to introduce you to the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung: Who we are, what we do and how our research benefits society, meaning us all. Senckenberg examines relations in the natural world and communicates its scientific findings to the public in various ways - at first glance this does not seem especially spectacular, since other institutions in Germany, Europe and all over the world are doing exactly the same thing.
What makes Senckenberg exceptional is its research network comprising nine locations in Germany, its extensive collections and the wide variety of specialist expertise: from deep sea organisms to the ecosystems of high-altitude mountains, from the age dating of the oldest rock to climate modelling. This wide spectrum allows for a better understanding of the “system earth-human” and with this a sustainable management of our valuable resources- and this is what we want and must make possible. This is why it is important to us to present the research and science conducted at our modern natural history museums in Frankfurt am Main, Görlitz and Dresden to the public. To inform and advise we use numerous mediums: print and internet, audio and video, in popular and subject-specific science. Not only the 600.000 visitors a year, but also and especially Senckenberg’s broad civic involvement, prove this approach successful. We hope we can motivate you to immerse into the „Senckenberg - World of Biodiversity“- get hooked on the fascinating topics of the life and earth sciences and on Senckenberg!
