The Senckenberg – Leibniz Institution for Biodiversity and Earth System Research (SGN) was founded in 1817 and is amongst the most important research facilities for biological diversity. At eleven locations all over Germany, scientists from nearly 40 countries conduct top-of-the-line, international research in bioscience, biodiversity, and geoscience. The headquarters are located in Frankfurt, the fifth-most populated city in Germany. This is also the location of one of Senckenberg’s best-known institutions, the Senckenberg Natural History Museum.
