Panel discussion (TUE, OCT. 2nd, 16:30-18:00):

Geobiodiversity at the interface between science and society

The discussion will focus on the science and society interfaces, as well as on what it means for scientists to get involved in this area. Geobiodiversity research is aiming to contribute comprehensive understanding of the Earth system and its dynamics, and even develop options for policy and action. But how far should science go to meet expectations to fill societal knowledge gaps, how independent must it remain, and what do politicians and other societal groups expect from scientists to contribute tackling global change?
