Together for the world of (geo-) biodiversity: volunteer and alumni forum near Senckenberg

On November 23, 2018, about 40 volunteers, alumni and active Senckenberg staff followed an invitation of Prof. Dr. Mosbrugger and Prof. Dr. Böhning-Gaese, for common exchange in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. The event was financed through a grant by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

With 150 active volunteers and more than 110 registered alumni Senckenberg enjoys a broad support and extremely valuable cooperations. Prof. Mosbrugger and Prof. Böhning-Gaese appreciated this commitment in their respective greetings and made clear how important the alumni and the volunteers are for Senckenberg. The appointed volunteer Prof. Martens presented an exciting talk about the world of harvestmen and portrayed his long-lasting association with Senckenberg. Former Senckenberg scientist Dr. Lotzkat advertised in his talk the importance of voluntary work and explained how valuable scientific collections are.

Later on, some departments presented themselves in the "Café of Opportunities" and showed what kind of work volunteers can do at Senckenberg. We hope that we were able to recruit active support for Senckenberg along the way.

The event was rounded off by two guided tours, one through the Museum by Sebastian Lotzkat and one through the collections of ichthyology by Friedhelm Krupp.

In 2019, Senckenberg plans to be present again at the Frankfurt Volunteer Fair with a booth to recruit volunteers. Also, the internal forum shall take place again in 2019.
