PROFESSIONAL CARREER AND EXPERIENCE

  • November – December 2006: Field Research, Socotra Island Yemen
This field research allowed to asses the feasibility of my PhD project in the field in terms of logistic and time and to identify and select sampling sites and fish species, leading to crucial information for the organization, preparation and improvement of the next main field works.
  • November 2006: Environmental consulting for MacAlister Eliote and Partner Ltd, Yemen
Follow up of the May – June study.
  • April 2005 to present: Research Assistant, Frankfurt, Germany
Technical coordination of the zoological survey of Arabia. Creation and management of a fish photo database.
  • Mai – June 2006: Environmental consulting for MacAlister Eliote and Partner Ltd, Yemen
Yemen Liquid Natural Gas Company are constructing a pipeline from the interior gas fields to the coast at Ras Balhaf in Shabwa province where they are constructing a liquefaction plant and an export facility. The Plant and export facility security zones will impact on the fishermen of the region who will have to develop alternative fishing strategies. We evaluated the effect on the fishery and advised YLNG on a package of measures to compensate fishermen and their communities. Main task: study of fish reproduction.
  • Mai – June 2005: Field Research, Yemen
Coastal zone management of Pilot Areas in the Gulf of Aden and zoological survey of coastal and freshwater biodiversity in the Governorates of Hadramout and Shabwa, Republic of Yemen.
  • June – August 2004: Engineer assistant in Security and environment, Le Haillan, France
Security & Environment Department of Thales avionics: to Maintain the ISO 14001 standards on chemicals, especially on C.M.R. chemicals (Carcinogen, Mutagen and toxic for the Reproduction) – Chemical database management – Formation and employee awareness to Environmental Security and Safety (project in agreement with the Université Bordeaux 1).
  • 2003 – 2004: D.E.S. project, Observatoire Océanologique de Villefranche-sur-Mer, France
Meteorological Superposed Epoch Analysis based on fluorescence key events in Villefranche Bay. Measurements at the local sampling site have shown short-lasting extreme fluorescence values which are located below the thermocline during the period when the water column is stratified and usually when those fluorescence values are low. Using a modified version of the Superposed Epoch Analysis described by Prager and Hoenig in 1989 and 1990, our simulation results demonstrated a significant influence of east wind on fluorescence key events during the period of high stratification. For three days before each key event east wind seems to be responsible of both vertical and horizontal transport of nutrients and phytoplankton. Those extreme values could be related to the presence of a sewage pipe on the east part of the bay (Cap Ferrat) or to the presence of the offshore current called the Ligurian current.
