Polar bear on sea ice

Polar bears are evolutionarily older and genetically more distinct than previously known: ancestry traced back to 600,000 years ago (20/04/2012)
A study appearing in the current issue of the journal “Science” reveals that polar bears evolved as early as some 600,000 years ago.
