Diversität und Resilienz benthischer Gemeinschaften BMBF 03F0957D
Das transdisziplinäre Projekt PaRCA ist eine gemeinsame Initiative niederländischer, deutscher und dänischer Wattenmeerexperten aus Universitäten, Forschungseinrichtungen und zuständigen Behörden, um Wege zur Realisierung einer nachhaltigen Klimaanpassung des Wattenmeeres zu entwerfen und zu analysieren.
Der Meeresspiegelanstieg und damit einhergehende Küstenschutzmaßnahmen werden die Zusammensetzung der Sedimente im Wattenmeer beeinflussen. Dadurch werden sich auch die Lebensgemeinschaften im Watt und die Dienstleistungen, die diese für das Ökosystem erbringen, verändern.
Wir untersuchen wie sich Sedimentmanagement-Strategien auf die biologische Vielfalt der im Sediment lebenden kleinen Organismen auswirken. Diese sogenannte Meiofauna bildet die Nahrungsgrundlage für viele größere Tiere und ist am Abbau von organischem Material im Watt beteiligt. Mit genetischen und morphologischen Methoden untersuchen wir, wie sich natürliche Störungen und menschliche Einflüsse auf die Gemeinschaften im Wattboden auswirken. Gemeinsam mit unseren Kooperationspartnern im Verbundprojekt PaRCA werden wir in Reallaboren an ausgewählten Wattenmeer-Standorten in Deutschland und den Niederlanden die Veränderungen der Sedimentzusammensetzung und der darin vorkommenden Lebensgemeinschaften verfolgen. Schließlich werden die Ergebnisse moderner high-throughput Methoden der Biodiversitätserfassung mit physikalischen Modellierungen der Sedimentdynamik der Partnervorhaben kombiniert. Als Ergebnis werden wir im Rahmen des Teilvorhabens PaRCA-SaM „Diversität und Resilienz benthischer Gemeinschaften“ großskalige Modellierungen und Aussagen zur langfristigen Widerstandsfähigkeit von Wattenmeergemeinschaften ableiten können.
