Meeting of Senckenberg botanists in Görlitz in 2025
On the 23rd, the journey continued to Görlitz, where a total of 43 Senckenberg employees gathered, the largest group since the meetings began in 2010. For the first time, colleagues from the new Senckenberg Institute SIP in Jena were represented by a sizeable group. The most important topics were the networking and digitization of the Senckenberg botanical collections (which now comprise a total of over 5.6 million specimens), the standardization of technical processes, and cross-location scientific cooperation. Due to the considerable expansions, an update of the brochure on the Senckenbergianum Herbarium is planned.

The program was rounded off with an excursion to a forest reserve near Görlitz, a barbecue evening, and finally, on September 25, a tour of the new SMNG institute buildings.

Deeply impressed by the new botany facilities and the future home of the Görlitz botanical collections, we set off on our return journey to Frankfurt in the early afternoon. Many thanks to our colleagues in Görlitz for their excellent planning and organization.
The 2026 meeting will take place in Wilhelmshaven from September 28 to 30.
