The SDMC brings together scientific IT expertise across Senckenberg’s various locations.
The Data and Modeling Center is Senckenberg’s knowledge transfer center for the curation, analysis, modeling, and mobilization of geobiodiversity data. It is organized as a staff unit within the research infrastructure and comprises the scientific IT working groups at Senckenberg.
Its core tasks include: the development of databases (e.g., the DINA collection management system) and web portals (e.g., Senckenberg.Search), the availability of a research metadata portal, the provision of infrastructure for high-performance computing, research in the fields of data structure and data spaces, the modeling of research data, and the implementation of Senckenberg in international and national structures (DiSSCo; NFDI; OSIRIS).
The center performs both central tasks for all institutes (Digital Collection Infrastructure Group; Geobiodiversity Information & Data Management) and decentralized, institute-specific tasks (domain-specific data platforms; scientific computing). The SDMC is fundamentally an evolving organizational unit.
