The scientific libraries of the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) are of fundamental importance for scientific activity, providing printed and digital media, conducting research and acquisition, preparing and making available subject-specific information, and professionally preserving historically valuable book collections. Based on Senckenberg’s federal structure, they ensure individual access to the existing literature inventories at the various locations.
The archive of the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) preserves the history of the society in two different areas: it collects scientific and contemporary historical documents from the SGN’s fields of work, i.e., botany, zoology, oceanography, ecology, paleontology, geology, and mineralogy. The archive also documents the history of the SGN itself on the basis of membership lists, meeting minutes, letters, construction plans, and documents. Some of the locations outside Frankfurt maintain their own archives.
