Entomology Information Centre

Library

The entomological library of the Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut (SDEI, German Entomological Institute) is a major player in providing entomological information for scientists. The library is an associate of the  Virtual Library of Biology (VifaBio).

Since 2010 the library ia part of Hessischen Bibliotheks- und Informationssystem (HeBIS= electronic information and service union of academic libraries) and is a member of Cooperative Library Network Berlin-Brandenburg (KOBV).

History

Since 1849 Gustav Kraatz, founder of the SDEI, purchased rare and precious books. Among them were the works of Maria Sibylla Merian, A. J. Rösel von Rosenhof and J. Hübner. Due to further acquisitions of complete entomological libraries he created a considerably stock. Since 1909 the stock has continually been augmented by the intense international exchange of journals and series.

Stock

The current stock consists of about:

  • 24,000 monographies, anthologies
  • 48,000 Volumes of periodical of about 2.400 journals and series (titles)
  • 850 serial journals
  • 118,000 separata
  • 1,500 further media (maps, films, CD’s, CD-ROM’s, DVD’s,VCR)

Additionally there are collections of bibliographies and biographies.

Publication exchange

Publication exchange Müncheberg

For over 100 years the library of the Senckenberg German Entomological Institute has acquired journals and series in publication exchange. Today around 90 % of the 650 current journals and series are obtained within the publication exchange from over 300 exchange partners worldwide.

The following journals and series are offered for exchange:

Back issues are also available. For back issues and further exchange offers (monographs etc.) please see our list (PDF_list_of_exchange).

We are always interested in obtaining journals in the field of entomology, which we do not already have in our library.

Prospective and active exchange partners can send correspondence and publications, including sample issues, to:
