Youth Earth Talk – Forests for Future
An event by Förderverein Senckenberg on 29 April 2022 at the Senckenberg Research Institute in Frankfurt
With this year’s Senckenberg Prize winners, the event hosts two individuals whose work and commitment have made a significant contribution to the preservation of biodiversity and the forest ecosystem, in particular. They want to inspire enthusiasm for nature conservation and encourage others to take an active part in it.
Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, founder of Tompkins Conservation and former CEO of Patagonia, left the corporate world 30 years ago to devote herself entirely to restoring and protecting forests through the creation of vast national parks and nature reserves in South America.
As head of one of the most creative research groups in evolutionary biology and biogeography, Prof. Dr. Alexandre Antonelli (Scientific Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, London) studies the evolution of biodiversity, especially in forests and montane habitats. His goal is to identify our planet’s hot spots that require the most urgent attention in order to achieve the highest possible level of protection for biodiversity and climate.
