Ecological Biodiversity Research

We study the interactions of meiofauna organisms with their environment. From the tidal range to the deep sea, these seafloor inhabitants, which are only 1 mm in size at most, play an important role in ecosystems.

The experimental manipulation of habitats or the study of species communities are part of our research. This enables us to make statements about the trophic positions of different groups of meiofauna in food webs and their function in the seafloor system. But also the reliable identification of species and the description of new species are an important part of our ecological work.
