The Senckenberg German Entomological Institute (SDEI) Müncheberg (Brandenburg) is a scientific institute active worldwide in entomology (entomology).
Insects are the focus of SDEI’s biodiversity research: identification and redescription of species (taxonomy), analysis of their relationships (phylogeny and evolution), and study of their interaction with the environment (ecology) and the dynamics of their distribution (biogeography).
Since 2021 its director Prof. Dr. Thomas Schmitt has the professorship of Entomology and Biogeography in the Institute of Biochemistry and Biology, Faculty of Science of the University of Potsdam.
Inseparable from its research activity is its remarkable insect collections, the excellent entomological library and the historical archive.
Publishing three journals, the SDEI is able to maintain a literature exchange.
