Sampling site description

NameDatatypeDescription
PlotText Plot is the minimal investigated area, e.g. the group of pitfall traps, or the single trap, when analysed separately. (comp. area abbreviation)
Plot coordinates latitude Number Latitude of the plot if there are coordinates for every plot
Plot coordinates longitude NumberLongitude of the plot if there are coordinates for every plot
Area abbreviation Text Short name of observation site or plot, e.g. within a project context, or used by an author for specific analyses.
Date of observation site description DateThe date is documented as DD.MM.YYYY (e.g. June 1999 as 06.1999)
AltitudeNumber Altitude as discrete value or range. Altitudinal classes (e.g. montane, planar) are used and interpreted too unequally for this field, but are possible in the remarks field.
Microhabitat List
Habitat type List
Habitat type countrywise ListHabitat type lists of federal states
Slope Number The slope is documented in degrees, because this is more usual. Furthermore, given as a percentage, a vertical would be an infinite value.
Slope face List The list with 16 values is used with English abbreviations.
(anthropogenic) List
is Experimental site Yes/No Experiments influence the species composition. For zoogeographical analyses, an anthropogenically (and temporarily) changed species composition is not relevant. Using this flag, experimental sites can be excluded from biodiversity analyses.

Water content Number [Vol%][Masse%] "Soil moisture". There are two ways of input: 1) Volumetric water content (i.e. quotient of water volume by total volume) multiplied by 100 % (Standard: DIN ISO 11461: 2002-05). 2) Gravimetric water content (i.e. quotient of water mass by dry mass) multiplied by 100 % (Standard: DIN ISO 11465: 1996-12).

Ca2+ Number [mg/kg] Concentration of calcium ions
Total pore volume Number [%] Quotient of difference of total soil volume and solid matter volume by total soil volume multiplied by 100%
Density Number [g/cm|] Soil density/ Compactness (specified by assignment of method): compactness = mass of soil dried at 105°C related to total volume; categories available (also insertable as text: very low Ld1 [from German 'LagerungsDichte' = 'compactness'], low Ld2, medium Ld3, high Ld4, very high Ld5)

Vegetation

NameDatatypeUnit Description
Date of vegetation recording Date
Total cover Number [%] The plant species are not assigned to the strata.
Canopy level cover Number [%] For no existing strata cover, ratio is '0'.
Shrub layer cover Number [%] For no existing strata cover, ratio is '0'.
Underlayer cover Number [%] For no existing strata cover, ratio is '0'.
Groung layer cover Number [%] For no existing strata cover, ratio is '0'.
Dominating species in vegetation Text Usually, the three to five dominant, or most important species names (latin) are documented, separated by ';'. Trivial species names (e.g. Oak tree) must be translated to Latin (e.g. Quercus sp.). When necessary, trivial names can be documented within the 'Remarks' field. Dominance ratio as percentage in brackets.
Phytosociologic vegetation unit Text Quote name of plant society, do not transfer species names from vegetation unit to 'dominant vegetation species' or vice versa. The list of vegetational societies is obsolete.
