Dr. habil. Anne-Nina Lörz
Researcher
As a marine biologist Anne-Nina investigates the dynamics of marine ecosystems in thecontext of climate change, focusing on deep-sea amphipods. A key aspect of her work isintegrative taxonomy; using modern methods, she has described more than 50 new speciesfrom a wide range of marine habitats, including abyssal plains, trenches, hydrothermalvents, seamounts, sponge gardens and cold-water corals. Her benthic data providedscientific foundation for large-scale marine protected areas in the Ross Sea and the NorthAtlantic.
After twelve years at the marine invertebrate collection NIWA Wellington in New Zealand, she now combines cutting-edge international research (100 scientific publications) withinnovative teaching and knowledge transfer; through media engagement—such as livecommentary on ROV dives in the Arctic—she makes science accessible to the public.
