Deep-sea science in Action towards a clean ocean

A floating classroom – live

Ein digitaler Besuch auf dem Forschungsschiff SONNE am 18. November 2021 live im Senckenberg Forschungsinstitut und Naturmuseum Frankfurt

Waste, chemicals, noise, overfishing, and climate change are damaging the oceans. The deep sea, the largest habitat on our planet, is now also at risk. The United Nations (UN) has therefore proclaimed the “UN Decade of Marine Research for Sustainable Development” until 2030 and named seven goals under the motto “The Science We Need for the Ocean We Want”. One of the goals is “a clean ocean”.

The event “A floating classroom: Deep-sea science in Action towards a clean ocean” brings you virtually onto the RV SONNE with the chance to interact live with the marine scientists on board. Please understand that due to the international crew, the event will be held bilingually (German/English); a simultaneous translation cannot be provided.

The event is one of several “satellite activities” of the “Clean Ocean” conference, which takes place within the framework of the UN Ocean Decade 2021-2030.

Registration is required for in-person attendance (see below). Admission is free of charge.

If you plan to follow the event on screen, you do not need to register.

The event will be broadcast live at senckenberg.de/live.
