Ulf Linnemann was educated as a geologist at the Mining Academy of Freiberg. He received a doctorate (PhD) and a postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) in the field of geosciences and works as geochronologist, sedimentologist, and field geologist. Ulf Linnemann was employed as a scientist at the universities of Freiberg, Dresden, and Jena. Today he is director of the Senckenberg Natural History Collections Dresden, division head of the Museum of Mineralogy and Geology, and leader of the Geochronology Section. Ulf Linneman´s research focusses on the U-Pb zircon age dating of diverse rocks and on provenance analysis of sedimentary deposits of the supercontinent Gondwana. He teaches as a Professor of Geology and Plate tectonics at the Technical University of Dresden.
