The Senckenberg Deutsches Entomologisches Institut (SDEI) division Systematics and Biogeography focuses its research on phylogenetic systematics as well as on biogeography. That means the examination of phylogeny and classification of species within the megadiverse insect orders such as Coleoptera, Diptera, Hemimetabola, Hymenoptera and Lepidoptera represented by the correspondings sections of the SDEIs insect collection. Ecology section and the Molecular Lab complete this division.
