Adaptation, Bio-cultural Diversity and Ecology
In the Research Area “Adaptation, Bio-cultural Diversity, and Ecology” innovative methods from the archeological, paleontological, and paleoanthropological field research are used to study which environmental parameters influence human biology and cognition. The goal is to understand the impact of humans on the environment over the course of our evolution and the connections that exist between changing environmental conditions and the parallel biological and cultural adaptation of humans. The Human-ethological Film Archive is also incorporated in the RA 4.2. The integration of the “Schöningen project” in the Research Activity and the expansion of the excavations under way in this area complement our understanding of the environment in which humans have evolved and which determined who we are today.
