Beside the molluscs the section in Dresden is in charge of the collections Chelicerata, Myriapoda, Crustacea, Echinodermata, and Tunicata.
The main research is on systematics and taxonomy of Palaearctic lymnaeid freshwater snails (Gastropoda: Basommatophora: Lymnaeidae). A more regional based part of research is the monitoring of land- and freshwater molluscs in Saxony.
The mollusc collection houses approximately 1 million specimens of Gastropoda, Bivalvia, Cephalopoda, Polyplacophora, and Scaphopoda.
