Work and family life

Senckenberg promotes your career – and your work-life balance

The Senckenberg Society for Nature Research is a family-oriented research institution that supports its employees in reconciling work and family responsibilities. This is anchored in the mission statement and linked to a variety of offers and measures for compatibility.

Senckenberg is certified as a family-friendly employer

Senckenberg has held the “audit berufundfamilie” certificate for its successful family- and life-phase-conscious personnel policy and corporate culture since 2012. Most recently, the certificate was confirmed again in 2022 – this time “with special commendation” in recognition of our many years of commitment. The short profile provides an overview of the family-conscious measures already implemented.

Flexible working hours and work locations

Within the framework of company agreements on mobile working and flexitime, you can organise your working hours as flexibly as possible. Requests to reduce or increase working hours for family reasons are accommodated wherever possible. In everyday working life, family concerns are taken into account in meeting times, business trips and holiday planning, among other things.

Reconciling work and family during the academic qualification phase

Wherever possible, young academics are given the opportunity to gain academic qualifications within the framework of an employment contract. In contrast to scholarships, they are thus under the usual prerequisites entitled to social benefits such as unemployment benefits and pensions, as well as maternity benefits, parental benefits and, if applicable, an extension of the employment period during the qualification phase.

Childcare support

To bridge childcare bottlenecks, parent-child offices are available at Senckenberg. At our largest site, Frankfurt am Main, we also offer places for children aged one to three years in a day care centre as well as holiday care for school children. In addition, extra care is provided for your children during larger in-house events.

Senckenberg makes you mobile

As an employee at the Dresden and Frankfurt am Main sites, you can use a discounted job ticket. In Dresden, the Jobticket can also be transferred to other persons, for example your family members, from Monday to Friday after 6 pm. In Frankfurt, the Jobticket offers the advantage that you can take your family with you free of charge every day from 7 p.m. and all day on weekends and public holidays in both cities. In addition, there is a partnership agreement between the cultural institutions of the city of Frankfurt (for example with the zoo, Palmengarten and all municipal museums) and the Senckenberg Society. As a rule, you will receive free admission here upon presentation of your service card.
