Field hamster country

Together for living fields

Look for the last field hamsters in your region and help counteract the dramatic decline of the field hamster.

Together with volunteer area caretakers and researchers, you will work to understand the status and population genetics of the last populations of critically endangered field hamsters (Cricetus cricetus). As an area caretaker, you will receive information from us where a search seems promising, report your finds if successful, and collect genetic sample material. Or you can inform yourself during our field trips.

The project is sponsored by the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) with funds of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) in the federal program Biological Diversity.
