‘Honorary Members’ are appointed by the Board of Directors.

The Senckenberg Natural History Collections in Dresden award the Hanns-Bruno-Geinitz Prize, which totals 5,000 euros. The award is presented by Dr. Dedo Geinitz.

The Cretzschmar Medal honors those who have promoted the sciences supported by the Senckenberg Society (zoology, botany, geology-paleontology and mineralogy) through excellent work. It is the highest scientific award of the Senckenberg Society for Nature Research.

Wolfgang Strutz Doctoral Prize

With its research institutes, the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung (SGN) stands for modern bio- and geodiversity research and societally relevant analyses of the processes and changes in the Earth System. In order to promote young scientists in this field, the Senckenberg Gesellschaft für Naturforschung generally awards the Wolfgang Strutz Doctoral Prize every two years to honor outstanding achievements by young scientists. The doctoral prize is endowed with 10,000 Euros, which are earmarked for use in the award winner’s scientific work or further qualification.
