Die vor kurze ins Leben gerufene Sektion Paläozoologie I und Bernsteinforschung konzentriert sich auf zwei Forschungsgebiete: systematische Bestimmung und Beschreibung der Diversität der Flora, Fauna und Mikroorganismen aus verschiedenen Bernsteinvorkommen sowie aktualistische Experimente, in denen rezente Faunen mit fossilen Faunen verglichen werden. Wir haben mehr als 15.000 Bernsteinen und unzählige Insekten in Alkohol.
Die Sektion betreut außerdem die Trilobiten Sammlung, die mit ca. 120.000 Exemplaren von etwa 3.000 Arten zu den weltweit größten ihrer Art gehört.
